The idea for Celtic and Heraldic-designed pottery
was inspired during one of Peggy’s many visits to the Glengarry Highland Games.
Peggy and her husband, Ted, were attending the Games at Maxville, Ontario, when a monsoon hit. Most of the vendors
were forced to close for the day because of the nature of their wares but Ted, making the best of a rainy day, commented that
a line of pottery developed for the Games would be a good idea – the rain certainly wouldn’t hurt the pottery
and no one else seemed to have explored that market.
So, with some great designs and the help of two
fellow potters, Cindy and Darryl Lentz, P.D. Pottery created a line of pottery especially for Highland Games. Friends, Cindy and Darryl have since moved to PEI, but Peggy continues to express her love of anything
Celtic by attending the Highland Games, and by creating, showing and selling her line of Celtic and Heraldic pottery.
Since developing the line back in 2001, Peggy
has had the distinct pleasure of supplying awards to ScotDance Canada International, the Alberta closed competitions and the
Rob Roy Highland Pipe Band and Dancers. Over the years she has also customized
orders for many institutions and organizations throughout the Kingston area, featuring corporate logos on her pieces.
As well as the Celtic line, Peggy has incorporated
her love of nature into a lot of her work. The diversity of leaves, trees, feathers and birds (especially swans) provides
limitless possibilities. Drawing on her boundless imagination, Peggy designs one-of-a-kind jewellery pieces using leftover
clay and found glass.
Peggy and her husband, Ted, live in Kingston,
Ontario with their three dogs. Peggy’s small backyard studio is open by
appointment, or by chance. Her pottery can be found at The Skinner Studio &
Gallery, Bayfield, Ontario; the Anglin Bay Pottery & Studio, Kingston, Ontario; the Stratford Gallery, Art in the Park,
Stratford, Ontario, and at various Highland Games throughout the Province of Ontario.
Peggy is a proud member of the Art in the Park Association of Stratford and of the Canadian Forces Base Kingston Pottery
Club.
